Bharat Ratna

Hail the ‘Jewel of India’
Who set out to glory bring
Riding a chariot for Rama
Whose praises we now sing

His aim was for the throne
But Fate’s bells did not ring
Tide turned hope to tears
As a courtier became king!

Suffering pangs of irrelevance
Wrote autobiographical tome
His home was being treated
Like some ‘Old Folks Home’!

Then “pran pratishtha” got done
By acolyte, protégé and ward
And tears have become smiles
Because he’s given this ‘reward’!

Both politics and life witness
Seasons of pleasure and pain
One leader battles obscurity
Another looks to win and gain

Parties search for performers
To help win votes and grow
There’s no place left for losers
In this world of ‘use and throw’.
