SC Collegium recommends names of judges for the office of CJs of Bombay, Meghalaya & Orissa

THE Supreme Court Collegium in a meeting held on April 18, 2020, recommended the name of Justices Dipankar Datta, Biswanath Somadde and Mohammad Rafiq as the Chief Justice of High Court of Bombay, Meghalaya and Orissa respectively.

Justice Dipankar is the senior-most judge in the Calcutta High Court presently after Chief Justice T B Radhakrishnan. He was elevated to the Bench of the High Court at Calcutta as a permanent Judge on June 22, 2006. As a High Court judge, he is due to retire on February 8, 2027

Allahabad High Court judge Justice Biswanath Somadde (parent HC at Calcutta) was elevated to the Bench of the High Court at Calcutta as a permanent Judge on June 22, 2006. He is in the office of the judge of the Allahabad HC since October 17, 2019. As a High Court judge, he is due to retire on December 14, 2025.

Collegium has also made the recommendation to transfer Chief Justice of Mehgayala High Court Justice Mohammad Rafiq to the Orissa High Court. He was elevated as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court on May 15th 2006. As a High Court judge, he is due to retire on May 24, 2022
