Time for rule of law

Raju Z Moray

Does anyone remember
That concept we saw
In our law textbooks
Called the rule of law?

Then, in practice, we found
It was all a game of power
Where precedents could
Vary or change by the hour

For the sweet-tongued
Who knew when to lick
There always has been
A different yardstick

Dissenters and nay-sayers
Can count their lucky stars
That they are apparently free
Not yet dumped behind bars

Despite lip service to justice
Our trials drag on for years
Then the lecture topic shifts
To 'disposing of the arrears'!

Disposal finds a new meaning
In every lawless cop's head
They dispense with the trials
Disposing of accused instead!

Milords know what's going on
Milords perhaps may feel sad
Situation has now worsened
Which till now was simply bad

So let us dust old law books
Re-read that concept we saw
Amidst all this lawlessness
It's time for the rule of law!
