UGC directs strict implementation of reservations policy in teaching, non-teaching posts and admissions by universities and colleges

The Leaflet

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all universities to strictly implement the reservation policy for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Schedule Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economic Weaker Section (EWS) and the persons with Disabilities (PWD), in teaching and non-teaching posts as well as admissions to all level courses in universities and colleges.

It also directed the filling up of the remaining backlog in identified reserved vacancies of these categories in teaching and non- teaching posts, to furnish a report along with statistical information in respect of teaching and non-teaching as well as admissions to all level courses and Hostel accommodation during 2020-21

In addition, all universities have been told to display the reservation roster which is to be updated at regular intervals on their website.

The Central Government had informed Parliament in September this year that a total of  6,210 teaching posts were lying vacant in all Central Universities even as 12,437 sanctioned non-teaching posts were lying vacant.

Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', while responding to a question added that the number of vacant teaching positions for OBCs had risen to 300 for the year 2019-20, while for SCs and STs, the figure stood at 172 and 73 respectively.
