Taking constitutional values to the grassroots

Sambhaji Bhagat, the most popular Lokshahir (people’s balladeer) of Maharashtra, writes about his experiment of getting the common man to defend the Constitution by taking its values to the people in innovative ways.

Sambhaji Bhagat

Sambhaji Bhagat is the most widely known Lokshahir of Maharashtra and is an enormously talented author, poet and music director. He has written four plays, the most famous being Shivaji underground in Bhimnagar Mohalla. He has a book of songs (Tod hi Chakori), an early autobiography (Kaatlakhaalche Paani), and a collection of his published articles (Rannhalgi) to his credit. He has written and sung songs for films such as the National Award-winning Marathi film Court, Nagarik and Sarpanch Bhagirath, and even played roles in Marathi films such as Funral and Tujhya Aaila. He has also received a number of awards for his writing and his music, such as the Asmita Puraskar and the Sant Tukaram Puraskar.
