THE Delhi High Court Friday directed the Delhi police to ensure adequate police protection to a Hindu girl alleging threats from her family members and harassment from certain media houses for her desire to convert to Islam.

A vacation bench of Justice Subramonium Prasad passed the order on a plea filed by the girl.

In her plea, the petitioner said she is a major and she was in search of a social organisation that could provide her legal assistance to change her religion to Islam. She found one organisation, namely, Islam Dawah Centre while surfing on the internet who asked her to fill an application form. She, however, could not proceed ahead because the charges were high. She alleged certain media houses started harassing her by airing certain programmes against her. Her family members were also threatening her with dire consequences.

The court has now called for a status report from the police and listed the matter on July 26.
