When there is no debate
Before making new laws
There are bound to be
Loopholes and flaws

In difficult times like these
With many different fears
The marginalised many
Protest only with tears

But organised lobbies
Oppose what they don't like
Powerful pressure groups
Threaten to go on strike

Succumbing to pressure
The Powers will buy time
Till new punishments arrive
We must live with old crime

Politics has become a game
Of exercising power and might
When there is brute majority
The brutes are always right

Has tinkering with laws
Changed anyone's life?
Will we, the people, ever enjoy
Freedom from hate and strife?

Democracies just in name
Have succumbed to dictators
Especially when their courts
Have been mere spectators.
