When accidents claim lives
Old buildings crash down
Overloaded boats capsize
Many innocents drown
Leaders express shock
Are air-lifted to the sites
After making sure that
Media awaits their bytes
Enquiries are ordered
Ex-gratia for lives lost
Then the leaders fly home
At the exchequer’s cost
New tragedies happen
Older ones are forgotten
Nothing really changes
In a system that’s rotten
Could this be a reason
For economic prosperity:
Victims don’t get justice
Rulers rule with impunity?
