Gook likes the EC.It behaves like the younger brother of the SC..Taking its cues from Big Brother, it decides..Sometimes Big Brother approves, sometimes he chides..And its sense of justice is as unpredictable as Big Brother's..This can be seen from the way it has just dealt with the cases of four politicians accused of saying objectionable things and running afoul of the laws and/or the Model Code of Conduct in force for the Lok Sabha Elections..Two politicians are from the ruling party and two from the Opposition. Two ladies and two gents..One BJP CM tried to rhyme 'Ali' with 'Bajrang Bali' and ran into trouble when media rang bells..Another BJP MP, more familiar with four-legged creatures than two-legged humans, tried to explain to members of a minority community that if they did not vote for her, she would not be inclined to do their work. This was like telling a puppy that it won't get a cookie if it does not obey simple commands like 'Fetch'!.The big lady of the Opposition with the big purse and an elephantine memory had simply given a benign advisory opinion that a minority community should not cut their cake into pieces but give all of it, including the icing, to her birthday party..And a rotor-mouth UP Opposition leader claimed like a villain in some Bollywood movie that he knew the colour of the underwear of the heroine and enraged the heroes who are rooting for the heroine..When the EC was seized of all these matters and the SC asked it to decide them, it promptly grounded all flights of verbal fancy by the two women for 48 hours and by the two men for 72 hours.."Finger on your lips" Gook's primary school teacher used to admonish talkative children in class..The EC has also done the same thing, though it used different words like 'censure', 'reprimand', 'condemn' to express its displeasure. And the SC, like a happy headmaster, has approved the primary teacher's disciplinary actions..So, the four naughty leaders can rest their vocal chords and use this much needed short recess to conjure up more outrageous bytes to feed the salivating media..And the electoral juggernaut continues to roll on with the Election Commissioners in their shaky saddles..This Law-merick is for the overworked EC.(Which arguably is better than the JNU VC!).If the electoral atmosphere sours.The final call has always been ours. Like SC without favour & fear. We impose sentences severe.Which range from 48 to 72 hours!
