THE LEAKY ROOF

If courtrooms are leaking due to heavy rainfalls, would it be possible for the high court to dispense justice? Nagpur bench of the Bombay HC asked recently. It requested the government to release adequate funds to repair court halls. RAJU Z MORAY has been inspired by this episode to pen this poem.

The court was about to open

The Bench and the Bar were set

But then somebody noticed

All chairs and tables were wet!

Rain was heard on the cameras

Though no one was speaking

Showers made all the noise

And the roof itself was leaking!

Milords don't interfere normally

In mundane maintenance affairs

But this concerned their heads

The roof needed urgent repairs!

The bored Bar was happy to help

After prolonged lockdown rest

They promptly filed a writ petition

Purely in the public interest.

PILs get Milords worked up

They love to take culprits to task

But grant adjournments to State

Anger hidden behind the mask

Meanwhile due to the leaky roof

No productive work can be done

For even to carry out the repairs

Help will be needed from the Sun

Milords vented with a long order

Which was splashed in the Press

After all it isn't every day that

Aggrieved Milords seek redress!

Now Bar and Bench are waiting

For the Government to respond

They hope that by the next date

The Court hasn't become a pond!
