Process is punishment
When process takes too long
We accept injustice as a given
And merrily play along
Tragedy is what happens
In someone else’s life
We join meditation classes
To reduce stress and strife
A professor behind bars
Gets acquitted after ten years
State wants him back in jail
It is the intellectuals it fears
Only ‘insistence on truth’ always
And ‘ideas whose time has come’
Can topple regimes of oppression
And are troublesome for some
Those who celebrate an acquittal
And praises of benefactors sing
Shouldn’t forget those still inside
Especially Surendra Gadling
Injustice rules everywhere
But justice is tough to find
Saying this too is now risky
But I hope no one will mind.
