The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a list of a total of 24 ‘fake universities’ across India.
Uttar Pradesh alone has a total of eight fake universities followed by Delhi with a total of seven fake universities.
UGC has warned the public against these self-styled universities which do not have the power to confer a valid degree.
Section 22 of the UGC Act provides that the right of conferring or granting degrees shall be exercised only by a University established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, a Provincial Act or a State Act or an institution deemed to be a University under section 3 or an institution specially empowered by an Act of Parliament to confer or grant degrees.
