[dropcap]A[/dropcap] division bench of the Delhi High Court comprising Justices S Muralidhar and Sanjeev Narula has today, January 25, 2019, dismissed an appeal filed by All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) seeking lifting of the stay on the recruitment process of nurses in its four centres across the country..Before the division bench, AIIMS pleaded that due to one person the entire process is stalled and patients are suffering..On October 23, 2018, a single bench of the Delhi High Court comprising Justice Suresh Kait had stayed the recruitment process of nurses at four centres of AIIMS at Jaipur, Raipur, Bhopal and Patna on a petition filed by one Yasmeen Mansuree through advocate M R Shamshad, alleging discrimination against acid attack victims in the recruitment process and also the violation of the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016..AIIMS had on September 27, 2018 advertised 2,000 posts of nursing officers for recruitment in centres. However, acid attack victim Yasmeen Mansuree, who is also a professional nurse at a Delhi government hospital, challenged the notification as "arbitrary and unreasonable" to the extent that it denies acid attack victims the right to be considered for seats reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). Her plea highlighted that the notification restricted the benefit of reservation meant for PwBD to differently abled persons with "one leg only".
