After reading the Preamble to the Constitution of India, lawyers formed a human chain to celebrate the principles of secularism, democracy, equality, fraternity and integrity enshrined in the Preamble and the Constitution of India. The protestors reiterated the guarantee of freedoms that “We the people of India” gave to ourselves.

Senior Advocates N G R Prasad, Nalini Chidambaram, Bader Sayeed, R Vaigai, K Duraisamy, Advocates Anna Mathew, C Vijayakumar, T. Mohan, Sudha Ramalingam took part in the protest among other young and senior lawyers.
“Democracy is not just about voting only once in 5 years, and then going to sleep. It is about keeping oneself informed about current events, and participating in opinion building”, read the press statement released by the lawyers at the Madras High Court.
The lawyers also condemned the actions of the police in detaining some lawyers who had visited the police station when called by protesters who had been arrested.
Ever since the CAA was passed by Parliament on December 12, the country has been witnessing widespread protests. Several parts of the country were lockdown and heavy police and security forces are also deployed. The internet in many cities including some parts of the capital New Delhi was also shut down amid continour protests.
