Language not limited to a particular religion; Urdu can be taught in area with few Muslims: Allahabad HC
Published on

THE Allahabad High Court has observed that a language cannot be connected with any specific religion and Urdu can be taught even in areas where there are few Muslims.

"In a secular State it would prima facie not be open to frame such policy and to discontinue an Urdu teacher only because the Muslim population is less", the high court said.

These prima facie observations were made by Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra while hearing a plea by an Urdu teacher who claimed that her services were discontinued because the Muslim population fell below 20 percent in the concerned area.

Justice Mishra directed the state government to place on record the policy of the State in light of the observations made by him.

The matter will be heard next on August 16
