Chinmayanand case: Troubles mount for the former Union minister after a video goes viral on social media

[dropcap]D[/dropcap]AYS after the postgraduate law student who had levelled harassment charges against former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand, alleged she was filed, blackmailed and raped by the BJP leader, a video showing a lookalike of Chinmayanand receiving naked massage from a woman has gone viral on social media.

On Tuesday, the 23-year-old law student made an appearance before media with her face covered with a black scarf. “Swami Chinmayanand raped me and even exploited me physically for one year,” she told media persons, alleging that the Shahjahanpur police was not registering the rape case.

She has “explosive video evidence” to support her charge, which has been handed to the police on a pen drive by her friend, NDTV reported on Wednesday. “The friend handed over the pen drive to the Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has reportedly questioned the woman for more than 15 hours.”

The woman reportedly filmed Chinmayanand with a camera on her spectacles.

In her police complaint, the woman says she went to the politician for admission into his law college last year. Later, he allegedly gave her a job in the college library and then she move into hostel on his advice. Eventually, he allegedly called her and showed her a video of her taking a bath and used it to blackmail her.

She further says she decided to start filming him earlier this year and for this, installed a camera in her glasses, NDTV report added.

On Tuesday, Chinmayanand’s lawyer Om Singh had rubbished the woman’s allegations as a “new drama”.

He said the video is an attempt to defame his client. “I am sure the video is not authentic and should be sent to forensic lab for test. Action should be taken against such people who are trying to ruin the image of Swami ji,” he said as quoted by The Times of India.
