Calcutta High Court bans single-use plastic on its premises

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]HE Calcutta High Court has decided to ban single-use plastic on the High Court premises besides the circuit Benches at Jalpaiguri and Port Blair from October 1, according to the Registrar General, Rabindranath Samanta.

The decision to this effect was taken by a Full Court of the High Court in a meeting held on September 23 following which Chief Justice TBN Radhakrishnan ordered the ban from October 1.

Registrar General’s issued a circular on September 25, which stated that “an awareness programme will be held on September 30 at the sesquicentenary building here of the high court, which will be attended by the judges, lawyers, officers, staff and law clerks.”

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a clarion call in his Independence Day speech to eliminate single-use plastic in the country from October 2.
