Be Self-sufficient

First, we elect useless people
Then we expect them to quit
While making such a demand
We ignore the absurdity of it!

From those who are on offer
We select one not too bad
We didn’t expect to be happy
Then why should we be sad?

The powerful control us with
Muscle and money-power
And machinery that makes
Law-abiding ones cower

They behaved as they would
We should have understood
They’d milk every opportunity
For their coterie’s private good

Useless people once chosen
Are bound to be deficient
If you question them at all
They’ll say, “Be self-sufficient!”

Without our entering the fray
Can any change ever arise?
Will we even be left with
Our precious right to criticize?

If our wishes were our horses
We ourselves would be Kings
So let’s fight through the night
For the light which sunrise brings.
