Ammunition dump near elephant corridor: NGT asks army to shift dump from forest area

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]HE National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the Army operating in the forest area at Raiwala, Uttrakhand to shift their ammunition dump to another suitable site to enable the restoration Chila-Motichurelephant corridor.

In a petition filed by Centre for Wildlife and Environment Litigation, the NGT panel headed by Chairperson Justice A K Goel, Judicial Members Justices S P Wangdi and K Ramakrishnan and Expert Member Dr Nagin Ananda in its order asked the concerned army authorities to finalize the shift of the ammunition dump to a suitable location expeditiously so as to ensure the restoration of the elephant corridor under relevant provisions of Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980.
