The Leaflet in conversation with Masooma Ranalvi [founder of the organisation We Speak Out, striving to work for equal rights for Bohra women, specifically, against  Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C)] explains what is FGM, what is the difference between Khafz and FGM and the ongoing Supreme Court hearing.

What is Khatna, Khafz or FGM? Why is it practised in India?

What are its effects?

There is ongoing debate on the difference between Khafz and FGM. The supporters of the practice allege that the practice is called Khafz which is different from FGM. Masooma Ranalvi explains the difference.

Th is woman says she is a Bohra but seems to have no Bohra characteristics at all. Is her fight with the Bohra community really about circumcision or sour grapes. Her issue seems to be with the community which she no longer belongs to.
