Smoke and fire

OF all the games we play
A most honourable sport
Is wearing black jackets
And litigating in court

An important rule to note
Before you start the game
Is whatever goes wrong
Never accept the blame

Say you played the best
From the law didn’t budge
If still you’ve lost badly
Simply blame the judge

Slowly the word will spread
And by repetition will grow
Purely on bar-room hearsay
Everyone will claim to know

Meanwhile for every loser
There’ll be a winning one
Who praises the system
Says justice has been done

No one knows for sure
But everyone takes a guess
And some say corruption
Is the reason for this mess

But none to beat the judges
Who, after they safely retire
Sagely announce to media
“There’s no smoke without fire!”
