Allahabad High Court senior designation challenged

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] petition has been in the Allahabad High Court challenging the senior designation of 75 advocates yesterday on the ground that the guidelines of the Supreme Court had not been followed while screening applications and shortlisting candidates.

Advocate Vishnu Bihari Tiwari approached the court for an early hearing, alleging that the Permanent Committee of the Allahabad High Court had not complied with the guidelines of the Supreme Court judgement in Indira Jaising v Supreme Court of India through Secretary-General and Ors

A two-judge bench of Justices Shashi Kant Gupta and Pankaj Bhatia while rejecting the plea for early hearing, ordered that the petition be listed as per the Allahabad High Court rules, most likely to be May 23, 2019.

The Allahabad High Court on May 20, 2019 conferred senior designations on 75 advocates from among 100 applications. This is the first time, the court conferred senior designations according to the newly amended “The Designation of Senior Advocate Rules, 2018” of the Allahabad High Court as notified on April 18, 2018.
