[dropcap]T[/dropcap]HE office of the State Coordinator of National Registration of Citizen (NRC), Assam today published an additional draft exclusion list for the NRC, comprising the names of 1,02,462 persons.
The names of these persons were initially included in the draft NRC published on June 30, 2018, but were subsequently been found to be ineligible.

The additional draft list was published under Clause 5 of the Schedule of the Citizenship(Registration of Citizenship and Issues of National Identity Cards) Rules 2003.
The NRC draft which was published on June 30, 2018, included the names of 2.9 crore people out of the total application of 3.29 crore. About 40 lakh people were left out from the draft list. With the additional draft list, the figure now sores up to 41 lakh.
The updating procedure in Assam is being monitored by the Supreme Court of India. The final NRC list is scheduled to be released on July 31, 2019.
